I had a pleasant stay at Skuggi Hotel. The location is one of its biggest advantages, with many of Reykjavík’s main attractions, restaurants, and shops within easy walking distance, making it a great base for exploring the city. The room was on the smaller side, but it had everything I needed for a comfortable stay. It was clean, modern, and well maintained. The bed was comfortable, and although the room wasn’t spacious, it was perfectly adequate if you’re planning to spend most of your time out exploring. The breakfast was a little basic. There was enough to get the day started, but the selection wasn’t as extensive as I’ve experienced at some other hotels. The staff were fine throughout my stay. They were professional and helpful when needed. Overall, Skuggi Hotel is a good, comfortable option if you’re looking for a clean, modern hotel in a convenient location.
I think the 4+ star average it being a bit generous for the price. I picked this place for location and the advertised on site parking. What wasn't clear was how limited the parking availability is. Coming back late to find no available spots was a frustrating ordeal compounded by the lack of available street parking. If I wanted to spend 20-30min to find parking and then moving your car in the morning I'd rather have saved a few bucks at a different hotel. Furthermore, the accomodations are lacking for the cost. No conditioner or body wash. Only a hand/hair soap that may as well he an industrial degreaser. Oh and don't forget the paper thin, fraying towels! Locations is good. Breakfast was very good.
We were very happy with our stay here. The hotel is conveniently located close to the main street with restaurants and shops, making it easy to explore the area. The room was comfortable, although a little on the small side. One minor drawback was the lack of ventilation in the bathroom, which made it quite steamy after showering. The beds were very comfortable, and we really enjoyed the breakfast buffet, which offered a great selection of tasty options. The staff were friendly and helpful throughout our stay. While they occasionally seemed a bit reserved or tired, they were always kind and professional. Overall, we had a pleasant stay and would happily recommend this hotel.
Edit: I would categorize this as a 2 star hotel and the price does not match the product. Staff not personable/helpful, very basic amenities, research parking beforehand. Still at the hotel but would leave for a different hotel or Airbnb even if able and so cannot recommend. Not enough parking, no signage, and lack of friendliness/help from the front desk for recommendations. They appeared to know nothing about the parking lot that is around the hotel. We arrived around 11pm and pulled into the hotel driveway, which leads to both city parking and the hotel garage. We parked to go check in and then move the car. Staff told us the hotel lot was full. That’s fine, recommendations on where to park? Couldn’t be bothered. So at 11pm at night we spent the next 20 minutes researching how to park in the city using the zones. We also played a fun game of get the car out of the lot before the grace period expired whilst checking in. What’s the grace period? Staff had no clue.
