Stunning food and very inviting atmosphere. I’ve been to many fine dining spots across South America, Asia, the U.S. and Europe, and this rose near the top of my list. Every dish was spot on. Favorites were: Halibut tart with a side of broth, smoked salmon, cod w/ a sauce made from wine that tastes like a whiskey, the bread cooked below ground in a milk carton with a beautiful butter topped with trout roe. Loved the aesthetic of the grandmas’ living room and kitchen. The chefs and staff were very kind. Good mix of incredibly high quality, but not stuffy.
Really great experience. The atmosphere is cozy and has a nice story behind it, which makes the whole meal feel more special. Every dish was different and had its own character.
Truly a special experience to be in Óx. From the moment you walked through a random door on the main street of Reykjavik to the end of the meal. There are only 17/18 spots for the evening and guests are seated around ‘the kitchen counter’ where final prep are done. That, and the rest of the restaurant, are decorated with pieces of family memory of the chef owner. Guests from different group got to make nice conversations with strangerd next to them and share their experiences in life and impression of Iceland.
Redefines “unique” dining experience. Incredible food, charming staff, and an atmosphere unlike anything you could imagine. Hard to believe it only has 1 Michelin star
