had a wonderful stay at the Eco Hostel in Reykjavík and would absolutely recommend it to anyone visiting Iceland, especially fellow plant lovers. The location is fantastic, right in the heart of the city with easy walking distance to restaurants, shops, and the famous Hallgrímskirkja church. It was so convenient to explore the city without needing a car. The hostel itself is beautifully designed with a modern, minimalist Scandinavian aesthetic that feels both stylish and welcoming. Everything is incredibly clean and well maintained, from the shared bathrooms to the fully equipped kitchen. The common lounge area is spacious and comfortable, with plenty of seating, large windows that let in beautiful natural light, and a cozy atmosphere that makes it easy to meet other travelers, many of whom were also keen on sustainable living. I was truly impressed by their commitment to sustainability, which really aligns with a plant forward lifestyle. They have a comprehensive recycling system, offer a clothes swapping rack for guests, and even feature a small selection of vegetarian and vegan snacks for sale at the front desk. It felt good knowing my stay was leaving a lighter footprint on Iceland's stunning environment, and I loved that they openly encouraged guests to choose meat free options during their stay. The staff were also exceptionally friendly and knowledgeable, always happy to give recommendations on local hikes, geothermal pools, or the best spots for delicious plant based meals around town, like their fantastic mushroom and barley stew. The beds were comfortable with good quality mattresses and linens, and the heating was perfect for the cool August evenings. I also appreciated the quiet hours policy which made for peaceful nights after long days of exploring waterfalls, black sand beaches, and grazing on wild berries along the trails. The WiFi was fast and reliable, and the self check in process was seamless even when I arrived late. The only reason I am not giving five stars is that the dorm beds lack privacy curtains. Even a simple lightweight curtain would make such a difference in creating a little personal space, especially for changing or just having a quiet moment away from the group. Without them, you do feel a bit exposed and it takes away from the otherwise cozy vibe. That said, the overall experience was still fantastic and I would happily book here again. For the price, location, cleanliness, eco conscious ethos, and the wonderful veggie friendly touches, this hostel is a real gem in Reykjavík. Just bring a sleep mask and embrace the communal spirit and you will have a great time. Highly recommended for solo travelers, budget adventurers, and anyone who loves good plant based living

We stayed in a room. The beds are not made, clean laundry sits on top of the bed for you to make yourself. No soap/shampoo in the bathroom either. No trash cans in the room but a communal one in the hallway outside the doors. Nice location to catch the bus in the morning to landmannalaugar, or when returning after. Laundry is available for 10$ to wash and another 10 to dry. There are cheaper, shared rooms without a private bath and the communal showers look clean and have privacy. If you're looking for a private room an extra 20 bucks gets you a lot more elsewhere. Otherwise as a hostel this is nice.

Great hostel in a great location. Dalur was an easy drive from KEF. Self checkin was efficient and facilities are clean and charming (in that hostel kind-of-way). Nice walking trails to the botanical garden just outside the back door, and there's an awesome swimming complex next door. Facility is several kilometers from downtown so limited restaurant options within walking distance. Would happily stay there again.

*Dalur HI Eco Hostel – solid eco stay! ★★★★★* Loved our stay at Dalur. It’s clean, cozy, and the whole eco vibe is legit — great recycling, low waste, and they actually care about sustainability. Dorms and bathrooms were spotless. Beds comfy with thick curtains for privacy + blocking summer light. Kitchen is well equipped and super clean, which is rare for hostels. Easy to cook and meet other travelers. Staff were super friendly and helpful with hiking/bus tips. Common area has great atmosphere without being party-chaos. Perfect if you want affordable, comfortable, and green. Would stay again. We had booked 4 bed room with private bathroom directly from their site.

The facilities here were solid, with clean bathrooms, comfortable beds, a reasonably sized kitchen and many hangout spots. However, you should note that there isn’t really an age limit for this hostel unlike other hostels, and it often hosts groups of kids on school trips and as such can be quite noisy and chaotic at times.
