I stayed here for a few nights pre cruise. Rooms: 4/5 perfect size for a solo traveler. The room was clean and basic. They cleaned the room daily and replaced the towels when necessary. Service: 4/5 - there's a restaurant attached to the hotel which I did't eat at. They had 2/1 dining nites on Mondays and Tuesdays. The entrance/lobby area is inviting in a modern contemporary setting. The staff was kind in letting me borrow the plug adapter. There's a small snack & drinks station near the reception to by snacks/drinks. Location: good location. You're about 10 minutes walk from Bus Stop #4 where all the tour pickups are. You're also close to where the whale watching tours are. The shopping street - Laugavegur is about a 15 minute walk. They are a few good restaurants nearby - Ramen Momo, DEIG workshop (bagel place), Le Kock. I would stay here again.
We stayed here for six nights on a British Airways holiday and can't imagine a better location in this major port city. The view from our room was of a working shipyard with two fishing boats being refurbished on the slipways. The maritime museum and four or five popular restaurants and a few cafés were nearby. The reception staff were endlessly patient, kind and efficient. The building looks more like an Arctic research station than a hotel but has real character inside with a brilliant library, excellent signage and original wood sculptures, pictures and seafaring antiques. There's a classy bar with classic Icelandic food and a not quite big enough breakfast area at the busiest times. We'd very happily stay there again.
We stayed here four nights during our first trip to Iceland. We don't spend much time in our room traveling, other than sleeping, so we don't need over the top accommodations and amenities. This hotel was perfect for our needs. We had comfortable room with a view of the marina. We were able to walk to several restaurants, get to the core of downtown and access transportation easily from this location. This was a perfect fit for us and we'd return any time. Bonus....we arrived at 8am in the morning and they were able to get us checked into our room right away!
After being whisked away to Iceland for a 'special' birthday the 4 nights we had here were great. The hotel is ideally situated, just out of the main hustle and bustle, easily reached by a 5-10 minute walk, even being so close to a working port it was really quiet (the engineers working on the ship on the slipway didn't start work until after 8!) Breakfast was varied and plentiful! All the staff were very helpful and friendly - would definitely recommend.
The Mariner Hotel is an exceptional establishment. The staff are friendly and helpful, providing recommendations and assisting with bookings for trips and excursions. Originally Iceland’s only paint factory, the hotel has been meticulously transformed into a modern and practical accommodation. The buffet style breakfast offers a wide selection of food to suit all tastes. The restaurant is consistently clean and well-stocked even during peak periods. The on site restaurant is also highly regarded, particularly for its exceptional cocktail menu and the skill of its mixologist. We experienced no issues during our stay and were made to feel welcome from the moment we arrived until our departure. Guests can opt to forgo room cleaning and be given a 1000ISK voucher per day which can be used to discount food and drinks in the restaurant.
