Amazing service and attention from the staff members. Rodrigo was particularly attentive. We enjoyed very much our stay there. The breakfast is really good. Natural and good quality. Beds are comfortable, shower good pressure and temperature. The location of this hotel is unique. You have a really good sushi restaurant beside the hotel. You can get to the most important places to see in less than 12 minutes walking. Definitively a good option.
Location was great and parking was not too difficult to manage within a few blocks with my rental car. The room was quite small and tight but worked out well. Comfortable bed and pillows, quiet room that made sleep easy. Clean room. Breakfast was convenient and tasty each morning, though felt like the spread was a little limited compared to other European hotels I stayed at later in my stay. The morning "to go" breakfast service felt like a bit of joke - a coffee and tiny croissant for the same price as a full breakfast.
We stayed here mid April, and I cannot recommend this place more!! The location, the rooms, the amenities - but most importantly, the staff!! We were in Iceland to spread my brother's ashes, and on the second day of our trip, my mom fell at our Airbnb - she ended up having emergency surgery to repair her broken hip and femur. This was our final hotel for our trip, and we were able to bring my mom there from the hospital for our final night. Because of her mobility issues, there was no way to get her to our room. After our AWFUL experience with the Reykjavik hospital, we didn't have high hopes for helpful service, and then we met Bora. What an INCREDIBLE, lovely, kind and wonderful human. She set my parents up with an accessible room, helped us get her in, out, and provided the most compassionate care!! Maja and Irah were also fantastic. I can't tell you how much these acts of kindness meant to us, especially after the nightmare of everything that had happened. Upon returning to actually have the trip we were meant to, we will stay in Center hotels exclusively. The location was fantastic, close to all of the main sights in Reykjavik, the rooms were comfortable and had everything that you might need, good breakfast, nice facilities, and even a few parking spots. Keep it up - we have visited every continent and over 80 countries and this was by far, one of the absolute best hotels we've experienced.
This is not a bad place. Perfect location, nice staff, great breakfast. The rooms are rather awkward and the whole hotel was overheated for my personal comfort. We turned the radiators off in our room and it did no good. No option to open windows. The rooms were fine but not fabulous. Minimal storage. Nowhere to put a suitcase except under the skinny desk or on top of the rather large couch that took up about 1/3 of the room. They chose to enclose the bathroom on the bed side of the room with a glass panel, which means you really can’t turn the lights on at night without disturbing your room partner. They also chose not to put any towel rails on this wall, the only wall available, and there is only one hook available. So for double occupancy you really have to have them change the towels daily or hang them over the radiators if you can get to them. The shower enclosure in our room had a plastic shower curtain that is rolled at both edges, so very hard to close. Needs to be replaced. There is also very limited surface area for toiletries in the bathroom. Overall a decent room but poorly designed in the details and rather frustrating. Our particular room had a truly awful urban view to a very degraded building wall with windows facing us.
My family had an absolutely incredible experience with Thingholt by Center Hotels. We planned our stay in Iceland for a week and this location puts you in the heart of a lot of shopping/restaurants/sights all within walking distance. We also found the prices pretty reasonable for a family of 3 (around 250-300USD per night). The morning we arrived our rooms weren’t ready yet (check in was 3pm) and they held our bags and we walked 5-10 mins to get breakfast. On our way we passed a myriad of shops, boutiques, and saw that the Rainbow Road was super close by. This was really encouraging since now we knew where we could burn a few hours to do some shopping on a day with fewer activities. We stayed in the apartments (technically across the street from the main hotel—but it’s a small street) and they were very nice. We requested a washer/dryer unit as well as dishwasher and the staff accommodated our request. This turned out to be helpful after a long day of walking. A lot of our clothes would get sweaty and doing a small load of socks/t-shirts/undergarments really helped out. We also traveled with a child so there was a futon as well as a normal sized bed. With both of these things the space can get cramped but it’s very doable—you’re not going to be in your room much anyway. We did the breakfast in the mornings and this was very tasty. It was the same spread day to day but there were a variety of options. Among them were: hash browns, little sausages, bacon, fruit, pastries, eggs, cheeses, etc. I highly recommend it since it will also save you some money—-Reykjavík is an expansive city. The last thing of note is that our flight to leave Iceland was cancelled due to the huge Nor’easter in the US shutting down airports. At the last minute I asked the staff if they had a room to accommodate one more night. They were super gracious and found us not only a room but also upgraded our accommodation for no additional charge. I really was thankful how helpful they were given our bind. Overall all the staff were just helpful, friendly, and pleasant. So for all those reasons I would also recommend staying there. You won’t regret it!
