Description
A professional geologist will guide the tour, offering a unique perspective on Iceland’s highland landscapes. Travel in a modified Super Jeep for a comfortable off-road experience. The itinerary allows ample time to appreciate the area without a strict schedule.
First, visit Hjálparfoss waterfall at the start of the highlands, located near volcano Hekla. The Fossá and Þjórsá rivers meet at a 45-degree angle, surrounded by striking basalt columns. Nearby, see Búrfell, Iceland’s second-largest hydroelectric power station.
Next, stop at Haifoss, one of Iceland’s highest waterfalls at over 120 meters. View the adjacent waterfall Granni and the colorful canyon layers, which reveal the volcanic history of the highlands.
Visit Ljotipollur Lake, a volcanic crater lake formed a few hundred years ago. Its contrasting colors of red lava rock, green moss, and blue water make it a notable photo spot.
The tour includes a 2 to 3-hour hike in Landmannalaugar, known for geothermal hot springs and multicolored mountains formed by mineral-rich lava. Discover various geological features during the hike. Bring your swimsuit to relax in a natural hot spring after the hike before returning to Reykjavik.
The tour operates between June 15 and September 15, depending on weather and road conditions. In case of cancellation due to bad weather or road closures, a full refund will be provided.
