Description
Experience the best of the Golden Circle with Elysia Tours in one day! We will start our tour in Reykjavik, to then head out of town towards: Þingvellir National Park The first scheduled stop, right next to the tectonic plates that tower over Þingvellir National Park. Included in the UNESCO World Heritage Site, this site has outstanding historical, geological and cultural significance. It was right here in fact, that in 930 AD. Alþing was founded: the first democratic parliament in the history of humanity. The tectonic fault that runs through the entire national park is also located right on the shores of Lake Þingvallavatn which is also the largest lake in the country. Geysir The second stop of our journey will be in the geothermal area of Geysir, located in the Haukardalur valley about an hour's journey from Þingvellir. This area of fumaroles was formed about 10,000 years ago as a result of seismic events and tectonic movements, forming these eruptive cones of boiling water. Geysir is the name of the main cone of this area from which the generic name of geysers around the world derives. Although Geysir is dormant at the moment, in the same area, the geyser 'Strokkur' erupts every 5-10 minutes on average. In this area, in addition to the eruptions of Strokkur, you will be able to smell and see the colors of the crystallized minerals that mark the intense geothermal activity characteristic of the island. Gullfoss Last main stop of our tour is the famous Gullfoss waterfall (golden waterfall). Located along the Hvitá river whose source originates from Langjökull (Iceland's second largest glacier), Gullfoss is one of the most famous waterfalls on the island with its 32-metre drop. Another story concerning this waterfall took place at the beginning of the last century, when investors expressed their desire to build a hydroelectric plant, thus 'closing' the waterfall. It was thanks to the environmental protest of Sigriður Tómasdóttir (daughter of the owner of the land where the waterfall stands) that this project was never carried out, still giving us the opportunity to visit this enchanting place today. Brúarhlöð Still little frequented by mass tourism, the Brúarhlöð canyon stands out on the banks of the Ölfusá river which is born right from the Gullfoss waterfalls. This slightly less touristy canyon is a perfect destination to stop and eat our packed lunch. Natural Thermal Spring Iceland is rich in natural hot springs. In order to offer you a unique experience full of emotions, we at Elysia Tours will take you to a natural swimming pool, off the most touristic itineraries. After this last relaxing stop, we will head back to Reykjavik, where we will leave you at the same meeting point of the morning, or drop you off at your hotel.Includes
