Description

Gear up for a true 4x4 challenge as you conquer the highland tracks to Kerlingafjöll. This is a journey into a raw, untamed wilderness where the earth actively seethes and boils. In this realm of fire and ice, you'll navigate a landscape sculpted by immense volcanic power, discovering steaming valleys that paint the mountains in a brilliant palette of rhyolite reds and sulfur yellows. We will begin the day with a private collection from the hotel at 8:30 AM, departing from the vibrant energy of Reykjavík and venturing toward the untamed interior of Iceland. Our journey will be conducted in a 4x4 vehicle, engineered to navigate the demanding terrain that leads to the country’s most secluded wonders. The first significant landmark we will encounter is Gullfoss, the 'Golden Falls.' Here, we will pause to witness the sheer volume and power of the glacial river Hvítá as it thunders down a dramatic two-tiered cascade into a rugged canyon below, a formidable display of nature's force. From Gullfoss, we will leave the more frequented routes behind, transitioning onto the highland tracks that lead into the heart of Iceland. The landscape will shift dramatically, evolving into a vast, unpopulated expanse of volcanic desert and raw geological formations. This is the path to Kerlingafjöll, a remote mountain range of rhyolite domes, whose existence is intrinsically tied to the island's volcanic soul. Upon arrival, we will embark on a guided trek through the Hveradalir geothermal area. The trail winds through a landscape painted in impossible hues of vibrant red, yellow, and orange earth, sculpted by centuries of geothermal activity. We will navigate past steaming fumaroles, hissing steam vents, and bubbling pools of mud, a direct and profound encounter with the subterranean forces that shape Iceland. Following the exploration of this otherworldly valley, there will be an opportunity for a restorative immersion in a natural hot spring, a pool of geothermally heated water situated in a setting of pristine wilderness. This experience is optional and its entrance is not included in the program. On our return journey, we will make a final stop at the Geysir geothermal field. Here, we will observe the impressive phenomenon of the Strokkur geyser, which erupts with remarkable frequency, projecting a column of superheated water and steam high into the air. It serves as a powerful conclusion to a day dedicated to Iceland’s geothermal marvels. As daylight begins to fade, we will travel back toward the capital, concluding the experience with a drop-off directly at the hotel.
