Description

Begin with pickup in the capital area around Reykjavik City, including Airbnb accommodation, hotels, and cruise ports. From there, set out on a city tour of Reykjavik before continuing to the five neighboring towns around the capital. In addition to the main sights, head into suburban areas to see where most locals live. Around midday, stop in eastern Reykjavik for lunch at a popular local buffet restaurant known for typical Icelandic home-style food, including a three-course buffet and vegan choices (lunch not included). After lunch, continue to Árbæjarsafn, an open-air museum featuring preserved houses from the late 19th century and exhibitions inside. The museum offers a closer look at daily life from a time when most Icelanders still lived on farms and Reykjavik was only a small town. Next, visit Árbæjarlaug, a neighborhood geothermal swimming pool with views over Elliðaárdalur valley. Here, not only visit the pool itself but also go under it to learn how the facility works, offering access to an area most visitors never see (swimming pool entry not included). The tour ends with refreshments and a tasting of traditional Icelandic food, followed by a possible visit to the guide’s home, where you can ask questions about life in Iceland before returning to your drop-off point.
