Description

The tour begins in Reykjavik and heads to Thingvellir National Park, where you’ll walk along the Almannagja fissure, the boundary between the American and Eurasian tectonic plates. Thingvellir also served as Iceland’s historic parliament site from Viking times until the 18th century.

Next, visit Gullfoss waterfall, a two-tiered cascade 32 meters (100 ft) high formed by the Hvita River from the Langjokull glacier. In summer, the meltwater flow can reach 140 cubic meters per second.

The journey continues to Haukadalur, the Valley of Geysers. Watch the Strokkur geyser erupt hot water and steam up to 20-30 meters (65-100 ft) every 5-10 minutes. Nearby hot springs remain calm but display vibrant colors.

After the Golden Circle highlights, the tour drives south to Seljalandsfoss, a 63-meter (200 ft) waterfall known for its walking path behind the cascade. On sunny days, rainbows often appear in the spray.

Travel east to Skogafoss waterfall, 60 meters (200 ft) tall and fed by the Eyjafjallajokull and Myrdalsjokull glaciers. This popular location offers a recommended lunch stop in the nearby village of Skogar.

Finally, walk the black sand shore at Reynisfjara beach near Vik. Admire the vertical basalt columns and the Reynisdrangar sea stacks rising from the ocean. Afterwards, return to Reykjavik.
