Description
“The Nutshell” is Mountain Taxi’s signature day trip, starting with a morning Super Jeep drive from Reykjavik to Kaldidalur or 'Cold Valley'. On the right, you will see the western edge of Langjökull glacier, covering nearly 1,000 square kilometers on a volcanic base. Your expert driver may climb the glacier slopes when conditions allow, offering a unique encounter with Iceland’s icy landscape.
The tour continues through Húsafell to Hraunfossar waterfalls, where water drops from lava cliffs into the glacial River Hvítá. From natural wonders to historical sites, the journey includes Reykholt, the home of Snorri Sturluson, famed Icelandic chieftain and saga writer. Here you will also see Iceland’s oldest man-made structure, Snorri’s 13th-century hot tub.
Nearby is Deildartunguhver, the most productive hot spring in the Northern Hemisphere and a key source of heating for western Iceland. The day concludes with a scenic drive along the historic Hvalfjörður fjord back to Reykjavik.
