Katla volcano

Katla is one of Iceland largest volcanoes. It is located in south Iceland, close to the town of Vik i Myrdal.

On the morning of July 9th 2011 there was a clear but not very powerful activity in the volcano. Nearby river has flooded causing a 128m long bridge to be swept away completely. This has caused road #1 to be closed down near the volcano. The volcanic activity is beneath a glacier so there is no eruption visible at this time.
