Description

As of August 9, the lava flow at the Litli-Hrutur volcano has stopped temporarily, but the area remains smoldering and interesting to visit.

This tour starts with a pickup in Reykjavík and travels to the Reykjanes Peninsula, passing moss-covered lava fields, geothermal areas, fishing villages, coastal features, and mountain lakes. You will visit hot springs and the black basalt beach at Lake Kleifarvatn.

In July 2023, a new volcanic fissure opened nearby. You will hike past the 2021 eruption site at Fagradalsfjall Volcano in Geldingadalur Valley. The hike is about 2 hours each way over generally flat terrain. Along the way, observe newly formed lava flowing over older lava and moss-covered rocks.

After the volcanic hike, return to the Blue Lagoon for relaxation. The warm, healing geothermal waters help soothe your muscles after the day’s activity, and you will receive a complimentary drink.
