The Sólheimajökull Glacier is located on Iceland’s South Coast and is one of the most iconic outlet glaciers of Mýrdalsjökull, the country’s fourth-largest ice cap. Sólheimajökull is a perfect expression of Iceland’s nickname, the “Land of Fire and Ice.” Due to nearby volcanic activity, layers of volcanic ash settle across the glacier, creating a striking contrast between white and blue ice and deep black ash. This unique interaction forms glacier landscapes unlike anywhere else in the world. Once on the ice, you’ll encounter a fascinating variety of formations: crevasses, moulins, rivers, and even enjoy distant views toward the North Atlantic Ocean. This experience is perfect for those who want to fully immerse themselves in the glacier and enjoy a touch of adventure on the ice. Our professional guides not only guide you safely to climb on the ice, but they will also help capture stunning photos for you. The meeting point is at the Sólheimajökull glacier parking area. Your guide will assist you in gearing up with all the necessary glacier equipment before leading you onto the ice. The total duration is approximately four hours. This is not a continuous hike or climb; the experience is thoughtfully paced, combining walking and photo stops, so you can fully enjoy the glacier without feeling exhausted.
