Following a recent eruption in mid-July 2023 at Litli Hrutur, the Reykjanes Peninsula offers active volcanic landscapes to explore. This trip includes a scenic drive from Reykjavík with stops at Lake Kleifarvatn and other geological sites.

After pickup in Reykjavík, you will visit the black sand beach at Lake Kleifarvatn before starting a moderate to hard hike, approximately 2 hours each way, toward the volcanic sites north of Meradalir. The exact route varies depending on daily conditions to ensure safety. This is a suitable time to eat a packed lunch.

The journey continues along the Reykjanes Peninsula, passing extensive lava fields covered in green moss. You will visit Gunnuhver Hot Springs to observe boiling waters and steam vents, then Reykjanes Lighthouse and surrounding sea cliffs at Valhnúkamöl Boulder Ridge.

The tour concludes at the Bridge Between Continents, where you can walk between the Eurasian and North American tectonic plates before returning to Reykjavík.
