Reviews
The hotel is beautiful. The staff is polite and very helpful. The rooms are clean and well designed. I loved everything about this hotel. The food at Tides and the Roof restaurant was good as well. Would love to come back and stay here again. I highly recommend staying here. You will not regret it.
I’m not typically a person who spends a ton of time in my hotel, but the Reykjavik Edition makes you feel welcome and comfortable from the moment you step in. It’s a wonderful place to stay when exploring the rugged terrain of Iceland. Everyone I interacted with in the hotel went above and beyond to make my stay exceptional. The rooms are well designed and comfortable, not overdone. The spa facilities are nice, the food at Tides is great, and there are lots of other little touches that complete the experience. I love Iceland but the hotel itself is also part of what I’ll miss!
The location of the hotel is excellent, but unfortunately the overall experience didn’t live up to what I would expect from one of Marriott’s flagship luxury brands. After many years as a Marriott Ambassador, I’ve stayed in Marriott hotels all over the world, so I know the standard the brand is capable of delivering. Our arrival didn’t create the best first impression. We arrived by taxi and ended up taking our own luggage from the car to reception, with no offer of assistance from the front-of-house team. Unfortunately, our departure was much the same, again with no offer to help. It’s a small detail, but one that contributes to the overall guest experience and isn’t what I’d expect from a flagship luxury Marriott property. The check-in process also needs attention. Having guests queue away from reception, with only one member of staff checking people in, felt unnecessarily disorganised. We spent around 20 minutes queueing before it was our turn to check in, which isn’t what I’d expect from a flagship luxury Marriott property. Once in the room, things didn’t improve as much as we’d hoped. The rooms are perfectly acceptable but fairly average for this level of hotel. Housekeeping was also disappointing. As I have asthma, cleanliness is especially important to me, and I had to complain after finding visible dust in the room that should have been picked up during routine cleaning. Breakfast was consistently chaotic. Nobody seemed to write requests down, so simple items such as coffee and eggs either failed to arrive or turned up incorrectly. After many years as a Marriott Ambassador, these are the sorts of details that stand out to me. For me, all of these issues point to one underlying problem: a lack of visible senior management. The staff themselves were always polite and friendly, but there didn’t seem to be anyone overseeing the operation, supporting the team or ensuring that the standards expected of a Marriott flagship luxury brand were being consistently delivered. There were, however, some genuine positives. The messaging service through the Marriott Bonvoy app was excellent throughout our stay, with every request receiving a prompt, courteous and helpful response. I also thoroughly enjoyed spending time in the bar, where a young member of staff from Greece provided warm, friendly service and was a pleasure to chat with. Experiences like that show the hotel has some very good people. Overall, the staff deserve credit, but they need stronger leadership and better operational management. With more attention to detail and a more visible management presence, this hotel could easily match its superb location. At present, though, it falls well short of the standard I have come to expect from one of Marriott’s flagship luxury brands.
I am already planning my next trip when my kid is older, and I will no doubt stay here again. The staff is next-level in their service—kind, understanding, and very patient. Our cold water in the room was having a problem; their team was up there in 15 minutes, had everything fixed, and were gone in 10. They would always follow up after the day if you put the " Do not disturb" hanger up to see if there was anything you wanted. The stream to TV was great if you have kids and want to watch a movie after a day of tours from your IPAD or other tablet. The SPA was totally worth going to. I got a Deep Tissue, and the young lady from Greece who totally worked me over "in a good way" Got this horrible knot that was in my calf worked out. She totally made me question my pain tolerance. But she got the job done and really helped get some joint release on my old injuries. The Bar in the lobby was wonderful, and it was so nice I could safely leave my kid in the room watching a movie, and my wife and I could enjoy sitting downstairs. The breakfast staff quickly learned who you were and would accommodate us after about 2 days of being there and recognizing us, would seat us in the same spot we liked if it was available, and they were great, answering questions about places to go and eat during the day. The doormen who helped with the bags were fantastic, quick, efficient, and clear. If you rent a car, just pay for the valet; it will make things so much simpler for yourself. If you intend to go to Iceland and really want a safe, clean, true vacation hotel where your needs are met. Just stay here.
Before our flight home from Iceland, we chose to stay at The Reykjavík Edition once again—and it was another wonderful experience. The entire team made us feel so welcomed, and it truly felt like reconnecting with friends. Special thanks to Morgan, the concierge, who once again provided thoughtful advice for exploring Reykjavík before our departure. His warmth and hospitality made our stay even more enjoyable. At Morgan’s recommendation, we enjoyed spa treatments at the hotel, which left us feeling completely relaxed before our journey home. Many thanks to Justina for the wonderful spa treatment and we didn’t even feel the need to visit Blue Lagoon or Sky Lagoon as we had on our previous trip. We also met Alina at Tide Restaurant for breakfast. Her friendliness and helpful introduction to both the buffet and menu made the experience even more enjoyable. We especially loved the ham and eggs Benedict on butter-toasted sourdough—absolutely delicious. And thank you to Deogo for assisting us with our luggage and shopping bags—his help was truly appreciated. Once again, our stay at The Reykjavík Edition was exceptional, thanks to the incredible people who make this hotel so special. Thank you all for making our trip so memorable.
