Jokulfirdir
Reykjavik
Jökulfirðir(Glacier Bays) refers to the five fjords of Ísafjarðardjúp outside Ísafjörður in the Westfjords of Iceland. In the past the hamlets at Grunnavik and Hesteyri were populated but the majorty of the coast was fairly sparse. During the 1960s, most of the properties were abandoned and nowadays only a few of the houses remain and are maintained as summer lodgings. They act as perfect spots for holiday breaks and the area is great for hiking and undisturbed relaxation. Due to its beautiful scenery and lack of human disturbance, the area was declared a nature reserve back in 1975 and therefore it is wonderfully maintained throughout the year.
To get there, you can fly with Air Iceland or Eagle Air, drive or ride the bus, and there is accommodation in various places around the Westfjords.
