Rauðisandur
Reykjavik
The rather aptly named Rauðisandur (meaning red sands) is a beach of dazzling colours. This settled district is a 10km arc between the Skorarhlíðar slopes and the Látrabjarg cliffs, which juts out from western Iceland. People come here to witness the unique red sands. The colourful sand is made up of a number of hues ranging from red to yellow to orange and even gold. These colours vary according to the weather and the daylight. If you’re a photographer, this is not a place to be missed.
Visitors make the trip to Rauðisandur because of its tranquility. This is a place of escape where you can take a stroll along the colourful sands and appreciate the beauty of the unique landscape. Very few amenities exist at Rauðisandur, however, there is a small café that sits right on the beachfront where you can dine or have coffee while overlooking the gorgeous coastline.
