'Museum of Design and Applied Art' - the name says it all really. This museum's mission is to collect and preserve the everything in Iceland's cultural history that has to do with design, especially the part from the beginning of the 20th century onwards.
The museum's collection of important Icelandic design objects and has steadily grown through gifts and acquisitions since its inauguration in 1998, and today regular exhibitions are held from the museum's own collection. For instance they recently installed an exhibition called 'Are You Ready, Madame President' of the clothes and other items belonging to Vigdís Finnbogadóttir, the first democratically elected female head of state in the world.
In the same space, there is also a KRAUM design store, selling jewelry, useful objects, books and furniture, to indulge all your love for design after being inspired by the museum. The store also offers coffee and tasty treats, and you can sit and browse through design magazines while you enjoy your refreshments. Truly a design lover's perfect day!
