The museum's collection of important Icelandic design objects and has steadily grown through gifts and acquisitions since its inauguration in 1998, and today regular exhibitions are held from the museum's own collection. For instance they recently installed an exhibition called 'Are You Ready, Madame President' of the clothes and other items belonging to Vigdís Finnbogadóttir, the first democratically elected female head of state in the world.
