Thorlakshofn Golf Course
Reykjavik
Just 30 minutes outside of Reyjkavik's city centre, Þorlákshöfn Golf Club (or Thorlakshofn if you're looking for a more internationally-friendly spelling) first opened in 1997. It is one of Iceland's few links courses due to its location on a sandy terrain next to the sea of Southern Iceland. The course is stretched over sand dunes, lakes and ponds, making this a challenging and varied course - especially due to the strong winds that often blow over the runways.
Designed by Hannes Thorsteinsson, it originally opened as a nine-hole course, before later expanding into a full 18-hole course in 2005. As is common of links courses, the scenery is breathtaking here due to its prime beachfront location; you should also be able to spot volcano Hekla in the background while you play.
