Borðstofan - the Dining Room

In the middle of the historic and charming Skólavörðuholt neighbourhood, in the renovated Hannesarholt, historic residence of Hannes Hafstein, the first Icelandic Minister of the Interior under the home rule from 1905, lies a cozy and welcoming bistro in the heart of the city.

The atmosphere is half the experience, and the non-profit which runs the historic Hannesarholt have a common dream to create an ambiance of a 'hug from the past', of experience and community, a place where people can come together and take a deep breath from the hustle and bustle of modern times.

The restaurant is a bistro and café, serving healthy, home cooked food with a gourmet twist, different kinds of seafood including salmon, catfish, bacalao and tuna; salads, soups, breads, delicious pies, cakes and other pastries, as well as coffee and tea of course.

Borðstofan is owned and operated by Sveinn Kjartansson, Icelandic celebrity chef who has draw attention with his creative and original culinary style in his various cooking shows on television. He has worked as a chef in some of the finest restaurants in Iceland as well as writing and contributing to some of the most popular cooking books in recent times.
