Nice 18 hole course in the country
When looking for an ideal place to play golf while staying in Iceland, you should not let the Fludir golf course pass you by. It's defined as a forest course, situated in the middle of South Iceland next to the precious village Fludir. The course itself is placed on the farmland Efra-Sel, and it's surrounded by tall trees. A river by the name of Litla-Laxa plays an integral role on some of the fairways. The course is fairly easy to walk and the view is fantastic, as forestation has always been a big part of the Fludir golf club's activity. Ever year around 5.000 trees are planted in the golf course area.
The Fludir golf club was founded in 1985 when the first 9 hole golf course was built by volunteers on a pasture. Three years later they opened the first clubhouse that offered light meals and coffee. In 2001 the Fludir golf course was renovated, nine holes were added and the new clubhouse that can fit 140 people. The restaurant was expanded and is now also a pizzeria that serves homemade pizza baked with delicious Icelandic cheese. More improvements have been made some are still in the making, because when it comes to a golf course, there is always room for improvement.
There is plenty more that you can do at Fludir and in the surrounding area. You could for example hike upp the Midfell mountain, visit the Fludir sweimming pool, take a natural steambath, go see Gullfoss, Geysir, Skalholt and Thjorsardalur.
