Reykjavik Maritime Museum
Reykjavik
The Maritime Museum is on the hip waterfront area of Grandi - couple your museum visit with a organic meal or a seafood meal at a cozy restaurant!
Fishing and fish related industries have been the driving force in Iceland´s economy for centuries. It´s only in recent years that the economy has become more diversified.
Reykjavik Maritime museum is located by the harbor at Grandagardur 8, in a building that played a big part in Iceland´s fishing history back in the day.
The museum has exhibitions that are updated regularly but also part of the museum is Odinn, a former coast guard vessel that took part in both so called 'cod wars' with the UK.
The museum is open daily from 11am-5pm. Guided tours on Odinn are available daily at 1pm, 2pm and 3pm.
If you want to make the most of your Reykjavík Experience, you may want to pick up a Reykjavík City Card, which grants you access to all the public museums, pools and city busses, in addition to discounts on many other things!
