This exhibition features an excavated longhouse from the 10th century. Included are relics dating back to the settlement of Iceland in 871, making this discovery the oldest of its kind in Iceland. It is likely this is the first, or one of the first houses ever built in Iceland, as it is the right time period and the right place, according to the sagas.
Combining the old with the new, the the exhibition includes a multimedia element which brings to life the realities of life in the Viking age and during the settlement of Iceland.
Audio guides are available in many different languages, and the exhibition is appropriate for all ages.
Recently the exibition added a collection of selected Viking manuscripts of the Icelandic Sagas.
