Den Danske Kro
Reykjavik
Perfect to watch a sports game with a Tuborg Classic in your hand!
Theme bars are increasing in popularity in Iceland, especially Reykjavik. We now have Irish pubs, a German bar, English pub and even the Lebowski bar, so naturally we have a Danish one as well, Den Danske Kro. So what comes to mind when Icelanders think about the Danes, besides years in union with the King of Denmark, Lars Von Trier, H.C. Andersen, cycling, smørrebrød and hot dogs? Beer! And very good beer at that with, Tuborg Classic being our absolute favorite. Den Danske Kro is a traditional Danish bar and looks so authentic that it would fit just as well in the middle of Copenhagen as it does in downtown Reykjavik. The decor is in line with the concept, the furniture is warm and modest, Danish themed images hang on the walls, and the Danish flag is proudly on show.
Den Danske Kro has an excellent outdoor seating area where you can take your drink and smoke in peace if you please, or you can just enjoy the sun and hang out with your friends. There is live music playing every night at and often there are live football games, pub quizzes, beer bingo, darts and a happy hour. Den Danske Kro is a casual place in the heart of Reykjavik where everyone is welcome.
Grab your Danish dictionary, head down to Den Danske Kro and try out some classic Danish phrases such as 'Hej, jeg vil gerne have en stor øl, tak' (e. 'Hi, I would like one large beer, please'). With the doors opening at 2pm daily, you should have enough time to practice.
