3 Frakkar
Reykjavik
If you're interested in trying some adventurous options for dinner, 3 Frakkar serves, among other more traditional dishes, horse, whale, puffin, guillemot and shark.
3 Frakkar (Þrír Frakkar hjá Úlfari) located in central Reykjavik and specialises in seafood. It's been in business for over twenty years and has always been popular among locals. Úlfar Eysteinsson, chef and owner, always focuses on serving the best Icelandic traditional seafood with a modest non-traditional spin.
The interior of 3 Frakkar is quite fitting for a seafood restaurant. The walls of the main dining room are decorated with mounted fish and a ram's head, which is actually much cosier than it sounds. The first smaller dining room is a little more intimate. The walls are adorned with beautiful portrait paintings and a large brass mirror. The third one, the smallest, has a spectacular view of the city.
The appetizer menu is truly exciting. We dare you to try the shark, an Icelandic delicacy with a strong flavour and smell, but if you'd rather have something that's considered more traditionally delicious the creamy mild fish soup is also a highly recommended choice. The main courses are no less inviting. On the menu is everything from Plokkfiskur, a classic Icelandic dish of mashed fish and potatoes, to lobster and halibut with lobster sauce and guillemot with game sauce. All the desserts are of course delicious, but you simply can't miss the skyr brulée. Don't forget to check out the lunch specials.
3 Frakkar is an absolute must-visit restaurant in Reykjavik. Even world famous naked chef Jamie Oliver says so!
