Loki was walking distance from our AirBnB, and we ended up going there twice during our 10-day trip. That tells you that the food is delicious. We had cod and lamb soup the first evening, and after a long hike the next day, we both felt like lamb shank, which was sooo good (and so big we ended up having pulled lamb sandwiches the next day).
We came to Café Loki wanting to sample some traditional Icelandic food, and it was such a lovely experience. First, do not be discouraged if the main floor looks completely full. There is a second floor upstairs, which feels much brighter and more open, with a beautiful view of the church. The downstairs has more of a cozy, traditional pub-like atmosphere, so both levels have their own charm. The menu is definitely fish-forward, with plenty of pickled options—and yes, even fermented shark for the more adventurous. We decided to ease into things with the warm lamb soup, followed by the pickled herring and egg. The lamb soup was warm, comforting, and filling enough on its own for a light afternoon lunch. The herring definitely has that tangy pickled bite, but everything was fresh and beautifully prepared. Also, be warned: the bread is wonderfully dense, so pace yourself! The service was incredible, the atmosphere was welcoming, and the location could not be better. Highly recommend Café Loki for anyone wanting a taste of traditional Icelandic food with a beautiful view.
We’ve been on a mission to try the best local dishes during our trip, and that hunt brought us straight to Cafe Loki for their famous rye bread ice cream. Man, it did not disappoint! It was easily one of the best things we tasted on the entire trip,so incredibly unique, different, and delicious. To top it off, the cafe is located right next to the church, offering amazing views while you eat. If you want a true taste of local flavor with a view, this place is a must-visit
This place was recommended by one of our tour guides. I requested for lamb soup so it was known that this place is great. We ordered a bunch of stuff and everything came out really delicious and flavorful.it came up to about USD $120 for 3 of us. The fish/lamp soups are really worth it.
Oh my God, those lamb shanks were one of the best I’ve ever had in my life, and I had a lot. Very tasty food, welcoming staff and a warm atmosphere. The prices were not cheap but the quality of both food and service were top notch. It’s a real treat to authentic Icelandic cuisine. The steamed Cod was a delight as my wife stated.
