Astund

Astund is a family run company that is well known to most Icelanders. It was founded in 1976 and initially they started importing equestrian products but in 1985 they set up their own saddle workshop, and have been producing their own saddles and other tack in addition to repairs and custom making products for the last 27 years. Their workshop is equipped with the best tools available in the field and their store is famous for its quality products and professional service. All the Astund saddles are handcrafted form the finest, premium selection of English, Italian and Swiss leather.

The Astund Special was the first saddle made at the workshop and instantly became the most popular saddle in the country. It is safe to say that being the first Icelandic saddle built onto a spring tree has revolutionized saddlemaking in Iceland. The spring tree is made from natural materials; 4-5 wooden layers of birch wood glued together and fortified with laser reinforced steel springs. The qualities of the spring tree are unequivocal, giving flexibility and suspension throughout the entire system which ensures that the weight of the rider is distributed evenly onto the horse's back. This is very important because the saddle must in fact work as a shock absorber between the horse and the rider.
