Laugarvatn Fontana is a wellness centre and nature bath in Iceland based on the region's long tradition of hot spring bathing. There are three steam rooms, collectively called Gufan that have been built over a natural hot spring. The temperature varies depending on weather. Inside of the steam rooms you will hear and smell the boiling natural hot spring underneath you, which is a natural and unique experience. When you're finished with the steam rooms you'll get to Ylur, a Finnish sauna. Temperature is very high but humidity is lower. The room has a window with a view of the Laugarvatn lake.
Outside you'll find interconnected mineral baths of all shapes, sizes and temperatures. They're called Lauga, Viska and Saela. You can sit and soak while basking in the beauty of Icelandic nature. Finally we have Vatnið and Strondin - The lake and the beach. The beach is covered in warm black sand and the lake provides a cooling effect between visits to the steam rooms and sauna.
There is a café at Fontana that offers a selection of healthy and locally produced refreshments. For example, you can try sand baked bread. At Laugarvatn, people bury their bread in the hot sand and bake it in the earth. You can also have soup of the day, smoked lake trout that's been caught and smoked at a nearby farm, and home made cakes, along with a wide selection of cold and hot beverages. There are several hiking routes in the area, and there is a good chance that you'll get a glimpse of the Aurora Borealis in the winter. Gullfoss and Geysir are close by as well.
Laugarvatn Fontana aims to revolutionize the Icelandic spa experience with the help of unspoiled nature, riveting culture, fresh water and hot steam. Visit Fontana for a once in a lifetime spa experience.
