An easy half hour drive from the city of Reykjavik, in south-west Iceland Blafjoll ski region is popular with city dwellers who can be there in no time when the snow starts to fall, as well as tourists who fancy something a bit different on their visit to the capital. The maze of 14 lifts transport skiers up to a plethora of downhill slopes for beginners to off-piste pros as well as a great choice of cross country routes for those wanting to improve their fitness. Take a look at the piste map for the slope layout. The resort is aglow with floodlighting in the evenings meaning you can stay out and about even in the mid-winter when sunlight is limited.
If you don't have access to a car, public buses run from Olis in Mjodd on weekdays at 4.15pm, returning at 9.05pm and at weekends at 12.40pm, returning at 5pm.
