The Living Art Museum (NÝLÓ) is a venue for contemporary Icelandic visual art.
The muesum is committed to presenting innovative Icelandic and international work. Founded by a group of twenty artists in 1978, it's the oldest artist-run, non-profit organization in Iceland. Through the years it stayed true to its original goal; to create a platform for progressive exhibitions and critical discussions on experimental art practice.
The Living Art Museum produces 6 to 8 exhibitions yearly, in addition to promoting artistic expressions in various forms, e.g. screenings, performances and workshops to increase the availability of programs.
NÝLÓ has throughout the years been an important venue for promoting artist, it's small size provides a flexibility and independence in exploring new ideas and unconventional art.
The Living Art Museum has through the years collaborated with prestigious institutions such as the British Council, Goethe Foundation, IASPIS, Kulturkontakt Nord and the Mondriaan Foundation in addition to many other galleries.
