From Reykjavík: Volcanoes and Blue Lagoon Day Trip
736 ReviewsHike on trails to the Litli Hrutur Volcano and the new eruption sites in Geldingadalur Valley on a guided day trip from Reykjavík. Soak in the geothermal waters of the Blue Lagoon.
The legendary bar and burger joint Vitabar, located on the corner of Vitastigur and Bergthorugata in the center of Reykjavik is the place most locals would point out to tourists looking for the best burger in town. It's all back to basics at Vitabar where you'll get the juicies burger you've ever tasted, presented in the way that all hamburgers should be. The place itself is as unpretentious as it could be, with basic interior, murky lighting, a couple of tables aligned against the walls. Nothing in there has changed for years, which only adds to the charm of Vitabar.
You can't go wrong with anything you order at Vitabar but one thing is for sure, as long as you're not lactose intolerant or really set against smelly cheese, you have to try the specialty burger Gleym-mér-ey (Forget-me-not). Gleym-mér-ey is a heavenly hamburger that is grilled to perfection, covered in just the right amount of blue cheese and garlic sauce. Accompanied by a small portion of French fries and soda, it could easily be one of the best meals in the city. Vitabar was a hidden secret for a while but people are catching up and the is now usually busy all day. However, no matter how crowded it is in there the staff somehow manages to serve the burgers within a sensible amount of time.
The menu lies atop the bar and that's where you place your order, not when you've already sat down. You can choose between regular, cheese, bacon and the Gleym-mér-ey burger, 140 or 180 grams. The fries are home cooked with skins still on and we urge you to enjoy them with kokteilsósa, an Icelandic specialty sauce meant to be eaten with fries and fries only. No no muss, no fuss, if you want to have a fantastic burger and a beer or soda served to you quickly, Vitabar should be your only choice.
