Grillmarket - Grillmarkaðurinn
Grillmarkadurinn was rewarded by Grapevine Magazine for the best hamburger in town 2012
Grillmarkadurinn (Grillmarket) is a top quality grill restaurant located in central Reykjavik and was founded by Icelandic culinary team member Hrefna Rósa Sætran. Grillmarkadurinn aims to please, focusing on haute cuisine, creative culinary and Icelandic ingredients. They work closely with local farmers and buy most of their produce directly from the farm. They strive to highlight the origin of each product, with the help of fire, smoke, fire logs and coal. The result? A unique and thrilling culinary experience best described as Icelandic tradition with a modern twist.
Grillmarkadurinn has a bar on the lower floor that is open from 17:00 until closing time. They offer a wide selection of wine and exciting cocktails in a relaxed atmosphere. No reservations are needed for the bar, however, it is recommended that you reserve a table for dining. Reservations are available either by phone or on Grillmarkadurinn's website.
Lækjargata 2a, the location of Grillmarkadurinn was built in 1920 and was originally a movie theater. At the time it was the largest assembly hall in the country. After the theater was turned into a bar it burned down in 1998 and was demolished. In 2011, a new building was erected on the same old spot where the movie theater used to stand, in which Grillmarkadurinn is situated today.
We encourage you to make a reservation and enjoy a satisfying meal in a stylish environment with your friends, family or spouse. It will be a night to remember.
